Department of Enrollment
Osiyo,
First, I would like to thank everyone for their
patience with this department. Please
rest assured that your records are safe and secure at this time and
will remain that way.
Secondly, I would like to ask all Citizens of the
Western Cherokee Nation to update their contact information and their
mailing address with this department, and, to send in any further
supporting documentation that may be available to support
lineage. Please complete Western Cherokee Nation Enrollment
Update Form WCE1003
or contact me by email.
The
Nation's mail was held by the post office for some 11 months,
some of the mail was wrongly handed over to one of the two former
plaintiffs
that were claiming that the Nation did not
exist but was merely a corporation. If the Enrollment
Department did not receive your enrollment package, we will ask you to
resubmit your application. If your original check or money order
has been cashed, please provide a photocopy of the front and back of
the cashed money order or check in lieu of sending an additional
application fee.
Finally, for new applicants for citizenship of and
within the Western Cherokee Nation, please keep the
following in mind:
with you current information. The (newly re-formed) Cherokee
Nation, of which we are proudly one of fifty-seven member nations
(effective 08 May 2007), has requested that all of our records be
updated and audited as soon as is possible. I would like to ask
any person that has applied for Citizenship in the Western Cherokee
Nation between 15 August 2006 and early September, 2007 to
- The payment of Enrollment Application
fees does not
guarantee that applicants will be granted Citizenship.
- Please, do
not send original documents!
- Please ensure that the following
items are included
in your Enrollment Application Package:
- Completed Enrollment Application - Form
WCE1001A
(one for each person/family member)
- Supporting documentation such as
birth
certificates, death certificates, marriage records, pictures
of headstones, death announcements, census records and land deeds,
etc.
- A
digital color photo on CD (Minimum 200 X 200 Pixels, 300dpi or
greater) for each applicant. If more than one person's photo(s)
are submitted on CD, an accompanying list on the same CD in a text
file (.txt) is required to identify what person belongs to what
picture (by file nomenclature). In lieu of a digital photo, A regular
color sharp and good quality photograph that be scanned and digitized
by the Enrollment Department for each applicant is acceptable.
Please do not submit digital photos by email unless requested to do
so by the Department of Enrollment by email or in writing.
- Appropriate fee in the form of a
cashier's
check or money order made payable to the "Western Cherokee Nation"
Sincerely,
Shawna Ellis
A message from the Chief in
regard to Enrollment:
The Department of Enrollment is just beginning to re- open its office
in a temporary office space until spring. There have been several
questions about back enrollment issues, it is our understanding that
some have even contacted person(s) out side of the Department of
Enrollment and the Governing body asking questions. These other
person(s) can not answer for or about Enrollment as they are not in
that department or in any official capacity to answer any questions or
to make comment concerning the Western Cherokee Nation's Enrollment
Policy or the happenings within. Tribal Enrollment has been backed up
for sometime now, as records and new applicants have been audited and
or reorganized for restructure. The Department of Enrollment will begin
issuing / re-issuing Citizenship cards as early as next week. We have
purchased a complete photo ID system which will not only save us time
in issuing, but will insure our Citizens will be issued a secure Tribal
Citizen Photo ID Enrollment card which can be used as a main source of
ID. The system arrived yesterday (19 January) and should be setup and
operational by
the first of the week. The Eltron P500 Photo ID printer and complete
computer system with design software included will not only enhance
our Citizens Enrollment card but will make the issuance of cards more
uniform. For more information about the new system or enrollment
questions in
general please contact the Director of Enrollment at sellis@tribalgov.info.
